We just wrapped up a backyard in Cary that came together really well. The homeowner wanted the different outdoor areas to feel connected - not just a patch of grass here and a gravel bed there, but a cohesive space that made sense as a whole. That's the kind of challenge we genuinely enjoy working through.
Fresh Zoysia sod was the right call here. It's a warm-season grass that handles the Carolinas climate well - good drought tolerance, dense coverage, and it holds up to foot traffic without looking beat up after a season. Once it fully establishes, it creates that clean, lush lawn that ties the entire space together visually.
The gravel accents were just as intentional. We use river rock and mixed gravel not just for aesthetics, but for practical reasons too - it reduces maintenance in areas where turf doesn't make sense, helps manage water runoff, and adds texture that makes planted areas pop. The planting plan design work we did here was all about layering those elements so nothing feels random.
Spring is honestly one of the best times to see this kind of work pay off. Everything is actively growing, the sod is knitting in, and the plants are starting to fill out. What looked like a construction zone a few weeks ago is already looking like a finished outdoor space.
If your yard feels disconnected or you're just not happy with how it flows, this is the kind of work we do every day. A well-thought-out planting plan and the right materials can change the whole feel of a property.
